【摘要】:Thethicknessormassperunitareaofacoatingisoftencriticaltoitsperformance.Forsomecoating-substratecombinations,thebetabackscattermethodisareliablemethodformeasuringthecoatingnondestructively.Thetestmethodissuitableforthicknessspecificationacceptanceifthemassperunitareaisspecified.Itisnotsuitableforspecificationacceptanceifthecoatingthicknessisspecifiedandthedensityofthecoatingmaterialcanvaryorisnotknown.1.1Thistestmethodcoversthebetabackscattergagesforthenondestructivemeasurementofmetallicandnonmetalliccoatingsonbothmetallicandnonmetallicsubstratematerials.1.2Thetestmethodmeasuresthemassofcoatingperunitarea,whichcanalsobeexpressedinlinearthicknessunitsprovidedthatthedensityofthecoatingisknown.1.3Thetestmethodisapplicableonlyiftheatomicnumbersorequivalentatomicnumbersofthecoatingandsubstratedifferbyanappropriateamount(see6.2).1.4Betabackscatterinstrumentsemployanumberofdifferentradioactiveisotopes.Althoughtheactivitiesoftheseisotopesarenormallyverylow,theycanpresentahazardifhandledincorrectly.Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressthesafetyissuesandtheproperhandlingofradioactivematerials.ItistheresponsibilityoftheusertocomplywithapplicableStateandFederalregulationsconcerningthehandlinganduseofradioactivematerial.SomeStatesrequirelicensingandregistrationoftheradioactiveisotopes.1.5ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasstandard.Nootherunitsofmeasurementareincludedinthisstandard.1.6Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
